As the new tobacco marketing season gets underway, the Tobacco Commission (TC) has released a fresh update on licensed buying companies—and there’s something new on the list.
In a recent statement, TC confirmed that it has licensed 11 buying companies to operate this year. The big news? A newcomer has entered the scene: Eastbridge, making its debut in Malawi’s tobacco market. This addition brings a touch of fresh competition and potential growth for the industry.

The remaining 10 companies are no strangers to the local market, having actively participated in last year’s trading season. These seasoned players include major names such as Nyasa Manufacturing Company, Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company, JTI, Alliance One, Hail and Cotton, Premium Tobacco Malawi Limited, African Tobacco Services, Associated Central African Limited, and Watergen.
With this blend of experience and fresh participation, all eyes will be on how the 2025 season unfolds. The entrance of Eastbridge might shake things up a bit—something that could bring new opportunities for farmers and stakeholders alike.
Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses, and we’ll keep you in the loop with everything happening on the tobacco floors.
