Dziko Lonse Likulira: Papa Francis Wamwalira
In a move that has stirred political discussion, the Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has turned down the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) request to conduct a whistle-stop tour across multiple locations in Lilongwe City’s Masintha Constituency.

The DPP had sought clearance to hold brief rallies at Chilinde, Chiwoko, Matchansi, Biwi, Mchesi, and Kawale this Saturday, starting from 10 a.m. However, in an official response letter seen by this blog, the council has advised the party to select only one location for their rally instead of touring multiple sites.
According to the LCC, the restriction stems from the fact that the official campaign period has not yet begun. The council emphasized that holding rallies in several areas would be contrary to current electoral regulations.
"Since the campaign period hasn't started yet, you are requested to hold a rally in one location. We request your office to formally write us on the place you intend to hold the rally," reads a portion of the council's letter to the DPP.
This development raises questions about how political parties navigate the boundaries between mobilization and campaigning in the pre-campaign season. It also signals increased scrutiny from local authorities as Malawi approaches the heated political season.
It remains to be seen which location the DPP will settle for—and how this decision will shape its outreach strategy moving forward. Stay tuned for updates as the story unfolds.
